Volunteer Opportunities & Organizations in Need

The growing need for food assistance creates a greater need for volunteers to support the efforts. There are always opportunities for volunteering and serving others. This page is dedicated to providing information on organizations in need of your time to help support Nebraska Communities.

Also included are critical non-food needs of partner organizations.

Food Banks:

These food banks serve and support multiple food pantries throughout Nebraska and Western Iowa. They are always in need of volunteers as well as donations. Please considering donating your time.

Public School Food Service: (paid positions available)

Schools and school districts across Nebraska are in critical need of staff to prepare and serve meals during the upcoming school year. [Less staff means less capacity, which means less thorough work and output, which means less healthy meals for kids.]

--One of the best ways to see what positions are available in your area is to go to the school district’s website and search for the word “Nutrition”.

--These positions are usually about 25 hours/week (9AM – 2PM) and are great for parents who are wanting a job that matches the school year.

Whispering Roots

Whispering Roots has a need for protein, to further amplify their distribution efforts. If you have ideas, questions, or are able to assist, please contact Mr. Greg Fripp at gfripp@whisperingroots.org

OTHER CRITICAL NEEDS

Nebraska Community Blood Bank:

Blood is always in short supply, but even more so with the pandemic. NCBB has extended their operating hours and are even offering daily giveaways as an additional incentive to give blood. Please see their website for more details:  https://www.ncbb.org/
